This Privacy Policy applies to the Speed Reading Pro mobile application ("App"), available on iOS and Android, developed and operated by EvolverAI GmbH ("we", "us", or "our").

1. Overview

Speed Reader is designed with privacy as a default. The App works fully offline for all core features. We collect minimal data, and only with your explicit consent.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your device and never transmitted to our servers:

Reading sessions (WPM, words read, time, mode, date)
Daily streak and practice history
Bookmarks and reading positions
Imported content (EPUB files, URL-extracted articles)
App settings (theme, language, font size, default WPM)
Onboarding responses (reading goals, benchmark results)
GDPR consent status and privacy policy version

2.2 Data Collected With Your Consent

During onboarding, we ask for your consent before collecting any of the following:

Analytics (opt-in):

We may use a third-party analytics service to collect anonymised, aggregated usage data such as:

App screens visited and features used
Session duration and frequency
Crash reports and performance metrics
Device type, OS version, and app version

This data does not identify you personally and is used solely to improve the App.

Personalised Advertising (opt-in, Free tier only):

The free version of the App displays ads. If you consent to ad personalisation, our advertising partner(s) may collect:

Advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android)
Approximate location (country/region level)
Device information and app usage signals

If you do not consent, you will still see ads, but they will be non-personalised (contextual only).

2.3 URL Import Feature

When you use the URL import feature, the App makes a network request to the URL you provide to fetch the article text. This request is made directly from your device. We do not log or store the URLs you import.

3. Advertising (Free Tier)

The free version of Speed Reader displays banner and/or interstitial ads served by third-party ad networks. These networks may collect data as described in Section 2.2.

Premium subscribers do not see ads.

You can withdraw your consent to personalised ads at any time in Settings → Privacy.

5. Data Sharing

We do not share your personal data with third parties except:

Analytics providers — only if you have consented, and only anonymised/aggregated data
Advertising networks — only if you have consented to personalised ads (free tier)
Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights

6. Children's Privacy

Speed Reader is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

Access — request a copy of data we hold about you
Deletion — request deletion of your data
Opt-out — withdraw consent for analytics or personalised ads at any time
Portability — request your data in a portable format

Since all personal data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by:

Going to Settings → Data Management → Clear All Data, or
Uninstalling the App

To exercise rights related to data processed by our analytics or advertising partners, please refer to their respective privacy policies.

8. Data Retention

Local data — retained on your device until you clear it or uninstall the App
Analytics data — retained per our analytics provider's policy (typically 14–26 months)
Ad data — managed by the advertising network per their own retention policies

9. Security

All data stored locally uses the security mechanisms provided by iOS (Keychain / sandboxed storage) and Android (internal storage / Keystore). We do not transmit sensitive reading data over the network.

We track the version of this Privacy Policy you consented to. If we make material changes, the App will prompt you to review and re-consent before continuing.
